Any good books on strength training for Tri folks? Thought a little free
weight work might help over the winter, and the "fitness coaches" at the
local Y ain't got a clue. They're best advice is "like, uh, it's like,
really awesome for your abs and stuff."

EricBe careful of what it can do to your swimming. I had that same idea one
winter and worked on strenght and endurance for triceps, shoulders and
lats. When I started swimming again in Spring I think I was worse off
than if I'd done nothing all winter. If you are going to do arm work, it
would pay to keep doing at least some swimming to keep track of the impact.DaveB

there was a great article in an old 'outside' magazine outlining mark allen's
weight training program ( if you can find it). or even better, go to
markallenonline.com and sign up for a training program- I'm sure you could
simply get the weight program - -

Stopped at the end of the Summer season so had a break of about 4
months. But that was a normal yearly thing for me and I would usually
pick up swimming again with no problem on my stroke, just a lack of
endurance. But the year where I did weight training instead of nothing,
when I started swimming again my stroke was a mess.DaveB
