  1. Started LC 4/20/05 (approximately) at 258 pounds.

    Now at 238!

Found myself hitching my pants up a lot today. Also debating adding
    another hole to my belt.

Also ran five miles today in 45 minutes.

You mean that (9 minute miles) is good speed for someone of his weight and
    girth.

That is pretty much the same as the airborne shuffle.

    Nice going.

If the belt becomes too long, it can look a bit silly. I ended up
buying a new, shorter belt after about a week of using the newly added
    hole.

I'm not the one that wrote you had great running speed.

In any case, if you can keep up that pace for 10 or 12 miles, that would be
    damned good.

  13. And I bet you will do just fine. I bought one of those stupid Gazelle
machines. They are worthless. Did you start out walking fast, then jogging
slowly, and then running? How long did it take you to get up to 5miles?

This is the slang term for the pace that's used when a unit of military
    people double time together.

  15. Well, I've been running for a long time. I believe when I first
started, I interspersed short runs with periods of walking. Then I
graduated to doing full 1-2 mile runs at a veeery slow speed, barely a
trot. Then as I got better, I increased my speed and distance.

I love running because there's nothing complicated about it. No
machines, no equipment (other than shoes, shorts, and a t-shirt), and
no skill required. Not that I'm against stationary bikes when the
weather is bad or I really need to catch up on reading or the news.

Anyways, for me, what I've decided to focus on is distance, and ignore
speed for the most part. I actually did do an eight mile run several
months ago, but I weighed twenty pounds more at that point, and I threw
out my knee. That was part of my motivation for starting LC... I figure
the less weight I'm hoisting around while I do my jogging, the longer
distances I can do with less effort, and less risk of injury.
