Actually mid spring isn't until May 1st. Snow clear into May isn't unheard
of in Colorado or Kansas. I think it's snowed every month somewhere in
Colorado and every month except July and August in Kansas.

We're supposed to get 4 to 8 inches out of this storm. Oh. Joy.

I remember it snowing on the day I set out by thumb for California--
April 15, 1971. It's not quite so odd, especialy since (at least here
in NE) winter didn't start until well into January!

OB food: stir-fried tofu and bok choy from this Month's Food&Wine was
pretty good--after I added a little red pepper to the bok choy.

I remember snow in Denver on Mother's Day in 1967. Not a lot and it
didn't stay long.

That only relates to March, not spring. March came in like a lion and
pretty much went out like a lamb.

In eastern PA, we're supposed to have a Nor'easter on Sunday, complete with
wind, rain, and possible snow accumulations.....

We sometimes get rude surprises with the weather. Back in 1979 when I was
working on a road crew I got called into work on a Sunday night, April 21
IIRC, to plow snow. It was the worst snow storm of the year. We had about
6-8 inches of wet, heavy snow that was so heavy I was plowing all night in
first and second gear. Two years ago we had about 6 inches of slushy snow
on April 16 or 17. i was glad I did not have to go anywhere because it was
too heavy to shovel and too wet for my snow blower.

It's a deal. We have 73 and sunny for about half a day, then it goes to
98 and SUNNY. I.E. we don't have much other than snow season and HOT.

And in Central NY. They are saying we may get over 12 inches! And our
pond just thawed out, too! Temps today are only high of 25° . I think
it's time for spring. Definitely soup and chowder time, still. Those
outdoor grilling and bbq days are still far away.......

When I lived in central Illinois (after Arizona and SoCal) I would
think of this time of year as the Dregs of Winter. Then I moved to
Idaho, where we couldn't be sure of safely planting tomatoes 'til
June, sometimes.
