Weather in Yorkshire

I always work from:
BBC Digital -> press red -> weather -> regional 5 day -> choose region.

This shows cloudy, no rain, temp 16-17. The tops will be in cloud, so
map, and compass are essential, and GPS would be a good idea.

IMO much more reliable than looking out of my Yorkshire window, which is
misty.

I live in Settle. From where I sit, I can usually see Penyghent (6
miles away as the crow flies). My general barometer is: it's good
weather if I can see PYG, it's not so good if I can't see PYG. At
present (Wed a.m.) it's misty in Settle & the Ribble Valley, although I
suspect it'll burn off later this morning.

We had shedloads (not a scientific assessment) of rain on Monday and
Tues so the ground is soaked. There's a load of peat bog on the
PYG-Ribblehead stretch of the 3 Peaks, so you may need a dinghy. The
Ribble was in spate yesterday evening and quite impressive at Settle
Bridge.

Today (Weds), the rain seems to have gone away and the sun is trying
very hard to break through.

There used to be a webcam on the TIC at Horton (the venerable Penyghent
café), but apparently it's out of action UFN (someone suggested it got
hit by lightning)

It will probably be as boggy as hell on the first section between Penyghent
and Whernside just after Hull Pot as it nearly always is anyway. Apart from
that most of the walk is quick drying and should still be ok. However on the
news last night Skipton recorded 96mm of rain in a 24 hour period. That is
very very wet in anyone's language so if I were you I would put it back a
week at least. I have done the walk many times and it is no fun at all if it
is slippy. Fortunately the land does recover quickly at this time of year so
if you get a relatively dry week preceding the walk you should still be ok.

That was showing a big yellow sun for York yesterday. We had 50mm
rain :-(
