Weather Forecasts (again)

Here in Ireland the weather forecast was for good bright weather today
Monday. So, I took my 17 year old son and we did the Cooomloughra
Horseshoe in the McGillycuddy Reeks in Kerry. Started at 10am and back to
the car, exhausted but exhilirated, at 5.20pm. And guess what? The forecast
was spot on: nice bright conditions with only the occasional cloud that
swiftly blew away and afforded us some superb views.

So what was Snowdonia like this weeked?

I hate listening to the weather forecast "most places starting dry and
bright" while sitting in my tent in rain and hill fog - as was the case this
morning on the Black Mountain, though not for the first time.

South West Shropshire was about like the forecast - bright, breezy, with
the occasional shower. It never did arrive at actual 'sunny' or 'warm'
mind you, and was actually sort of chilly above about 500m.

So what was it like in Snowdonia? - were those lumpy bits doing the job
they were installed for .. dumping all the rain before it gets to
civilization?

Mountain forecasts must be difficult. I took in something I read when
very young (40), that "mountains make their own weather".

Otherwise why is that cloud always hovering around the top of Penyghent?

Sunday morning torrential rain and driving winds. Cleared-up by mid-day and
indeed walking was good. By afternoon the winds really whipped-up again and
by 5.00 the driving and torrential rain was back again. Sunday much the
same. As ever, a few miles down at Betwys everything was far more pleasant.

I have to say that the Fridays forecast on www.metcheck.com for the Skye
Cuillin last weekend was very, very good - up until Monday, i.e. by "good" I
mean "accurate". The actual weather was [censored]!

Snowdonia was definitely like Snowdonia this weekend, I was out in the
Berwyn freezing my knuts off in shorts and tee shirt determined to enjoy the
last of the summer, denying that it was in fact bloody freezing.....

The Lake District was excellent, as forecast. Saturday we climbed on
Dow Crag, Sunday we walked up Harter Fell from Seathwaite, Monday
climbed at Wallowbarrow.

Why, was it not sunny everywhere else too?
