I've been watching this site a lot and Lochnagar does seem to get some really high estimated wind
speeds. Ben Vorlich also seems unusually cold as well.

I wonder how these reports are generated and how accurate they are. I've used them quite a bit and
never found them to underestimate the weather.

OnlineWeather just like MetCheck is an utter waste of time as far as mountain forecasts go, these
computer generated forecasts are semi succesful in some parts of the country but are useless in the
mountains.

The best forecaster around at the moment is "Geoff Monk" however I see he is awol again!!!!!. when
you get get his hill forecasts they are very good, however forecasting when or where he will
forecast is another story!

Anyway, here's my stab at the weather for Dreish/Mayar for Friday.

Looking at thursdays weather on Cairngorm, which was windy with cloud sometime above and sometimes
just below the summits. And considering that the charts are not all that differant for Friday (apart
from a slight tigtning of the isobars along with the wind backing to a more southerly direction,
which will mean more wind and a touch more cloud) I think that you will have a 50% chance of a
clound free Dreish/Mayar and at worst cloud base 850m or so! Rain will be never far away, mild for
this time of year, and It is going to be windy uncomfortably so!

Quite a [censored] day on the hills, I wouldn't bother!

Not bad, not bad. My route went directly up the Scorrie, to Dreish and then Mayar, returning to a
midpoint and then north east down a path through the forest (it is probably the one Adrian described
as a "ramp"😉. Weather from the car was okay but promising worse, and not cold. The cloud came
in/down about 750-800m (just above the top of the Scorrie), wind up till then was next to nothing,
at that point the wind came across the top and was quite strong, sorry couldn't guess the strength -
it was strong enough to stop standing on one leg............. The wind was from the S/SW so I was
probably in the lee until then. It got colder, there was patches of snow and ice, rain constantly
threatening but never quite pouring down, my rucksack straps etc were carrying beads of wind blown
water. It was quite misty which made navigation difficult in the low point between Dreish and Mayar,
there is a plethora of fencing, paths and rights of way here and had to check map, compass and even
GPS to make sure. It p*ssed down as soon as I got to my car, and all the way home. Which is quite
refreshing, for a change :-)

Unatural! It always p***es down ten minuted before the bothy, bus shelter or car!
