1. I'm 15 and I just got a new road bike like 4 weeks ago. Two days ago i went across a round-about and car on my left didn't give-way and hit my back tyre. I wasn't wearing a helmet and i didn't have lights on my bike. I got a head injury I was taken to the hospital in a ambulence and i had to get my head glued. I was aslo forced to get a blood test to prove that i wasn't drunk. It was the first time since i got the bike that i rode it without wearing a helmet. It could of been alot worse then what it was and the people who saw it said i was lucky i wasn't run over by anouther car. Wear your helmet. Dont be an idot!

well u learned a painful lesson really glad ur ok and alive to tell us about it. How in the world can they force u to submit to a blood test? Is the moron driver going to pay for ur care and a new bike....actually they should of tested him?

  3. i guess it just came naturally to blood test the cyclist :p

  4. I'm 21, I'm invincable.

But heck, I still wear the helmet.

With a helmet your injuries may have been less. With lights the driver may have stopped.

  6. I was riding in a group pretty quickly about 6 monhs ago when someone didn't call an obstacle and, being tired, I hit it and went straight to the ground head first. My helmet shattered around my frontal lobe area and I lost alot of skin but I am fine now. If I hadn't been wearing that helmet, I could have died.

  7. I lived on my bike as a kid, we did downhill racing, ramps and played in the traffic

We fell off got knocked off and in all that time not one of us wore helmets. There were no head injuries that I can recall ever happening to any one i know in my youth.

I'm older, and hopefully a little wiser now; I wear a helmet and have on two occasions avoided serious injury by wearing a helmet. I personally know many cyclists who have similar stories, all in praise helmets.

Funny how you think about things like that, once you realize that you are not invincible and will not live forever. I wonder how I survived a couple of incidents as a kid, but definitely glad I had my lid as an adult.

  9. I was hit by a car at 60km/h while crossing the road, I wore helmet, yet I still have brain injury and the helmet I wore cracked open where I shattered the car's windshield with my head. Stitches all way down from my head to my neck.

  10. I always wear my helmet. I even wear it to bed. Chicks dig the purple helmet.
