But why do I feel so shallow? Thumbing my nose at gas stations isn't so funny anymore. Sad to win the war against big oil this way. :-(
Headline- "Oil prices hit a new record near $51 a barrel on Tuesday as a prolonged U.S. production outage following Hurricane Ivan attracted fresh speculative buying. "
It's because you haven't won anything against big oil

I remember years ago agreeing with those who said the oil supply and demand curves would come together sometime in 2003-2005 or so; then feeling that I may have been acting like a "chicken little". Well, it is right on schedule, just like King Hubbard's prediction of the US peak decades ago. He was ridiculed, and off by only 1 year.
I just junked my car and bought a $225 bike trailer, so we are a 1 car family.

Thats assuming current supply will not rise which it will, the market always adjusts itself

No, Robert Haston means the geophysicist M. King Hubbard who developed a theoretical model that stated that the rate of oil production was a function of the rate of discovery of new oil fields.

Nothing at all to do with Scientology.
I was hoping that wasn't the case, I looked up King Hubbard on Google and got back a lot of L Ron stuff

Of course not me individually; a collective "we"- and a small "we" at that- from Chinese rickshaws to upright delivery bikes in Japan, German and Swiss ventures to velomobiles, mountain bikes, department store bikes, all of which recumbents is a very small part of.
The basic point is; that while seeing headlines like: ------------------------------------------------------- Update 19: Oil Prices Hit New Record, Reaches $51.48 10.06.2004, 06:21 AM ------------------------------------------------------- - a segment of society can shrug that off and get a 6 month supply of Tri-Flo lubrication for a couple of bucks at their nearest Longs Drugs, and spend serious money at bike shops.
