When you have the best riders, there's no need of team work. Belgium showed it in the '70s with
Merckx and Maertens who raced against each other but won nonetheless.

Bettini and Bartoli are by far the best present riders for one day races. Both of them should race
anyway, even if they are not friends.

Merckx or Maertens really should have won then, but they really hated each other.

But for now, after this weekend it's out of the question to leave Bartoli out. He is certainly my
pick to renew at Lombardia.

For worlds Valverde is indeed an extremely good pick. Before the Vuelta I just knew him as a fast
guy who could win a decimated bunch sprint. Now he seems capable to use his finish on any
challenging course, and he could profit from others marking Freire;
