five year old machine with probably hundreds of thousands of hour on it.
Not likely, there only being 43,800 hours in 5 years.
Okay well maybe my off hours of use are a little off!

I thought that re-installing Windows was standard maintenance for that
system.
Well maybe it is and I just haven't been keeping up on it.

allow what might appear to be installation of their software on two
machines, there is no reason why you can't do that. It would clear out
the horde of malware that you probably have on your system. Be sure to
back up your own stuff --- and be sure not to back up any virii (which is
the trick).
Well I don't have a lot of other personal stuff on it. But I do have
some. Probably just use a flash drive and transfer all the stuff onto
that. I don't think I have a ton of malware, I try to keep it clean, but
I am sure a few slipped in under my scanners.

it, so you might want to get a new drive, and just use this old one as a
backup (after re-formatting).
I was kind of thinking the same thing. I know that this old hard drive
is not as fast as a current model.
