  1. *sigh* My saga of adopting unwanted pets continues. I have found out that
Bart (the garage cat) is actually owned by someone on Berry Road Park, the
next street over. Bart's owner was walking down Glenhaven and spied Bart
on top of my Jeep. I was piddling with the mums. She came up, gave me the
history of the cat and said she would be down later to pick Bart up and
"Take her to my sister's farm"... My ass. She will never get her hands on
Bart. Bart, sensing big trouble, actually got into the crate and is
resting in the basement. I have to have her vetted before allowing her
    upstairs.

Hoot is having a stroke. First Ramsey and now Bart. Actually Sheldon was
first but he's a dog so Hoot wasn't so upset about him. My household is
growing. 3 cats, 2 dogs and 2 adults so far. And Margaret if you read this
post, Bart and Hoot are 2 different cats even though they look like twins.
Besides, Hoot's tail was broken and is crooked. I have no pics of the
household yet and may never have. Getting them all into the same room is
    next to impossible.

It sounds like "Get Fuzzy" is alive and well at your house.

"Get Fuzzy"? I need to get fuzzy. Steven is going to kill me when he gets

So something about this woman seemed "off" to you? What will you tell her
if/when she knocks on your door to reclaim Bart?

if i've been caring for a stray cat for several weeks & some
random stranger suddenly shows up, says it's her cat and that
she's taking it to ship off to some farm somewhere, well, i'd
    be hiding the cat too.
she doesn't want the cat, obviously. she just doesn't want
Michael to have it. if she hasn't cared for the cat in several
weeks, then it's NOT *her* CAT to take & give away.
it appears to me that the cat has chosen an owner. it wasn't
her. what would i tell her? hmmm. how about: "i'm sorry, i
don't see the cat right now... so sorry."
i think Bart will need to be an indoor cat for awhile...

It's obviously the woman's cat... picking up a cat from the street with
teh intent to keep it is stealing, and cruel, same as kidnapping... and
making no attempt to locate the owner only adds insult to injury. That
woman had no way to know you had her cat... return that cat.

And anyone who leaves a cat to roam the streets does not deserve to
have a cat anyway. A farm is a good environment for a cat but NOT
unless that cat was raised on a farm from birth... it's cruel to put a
house/city cat out on a farm... farm cats know never to roam out into
open fields same way city cats know to be wary of traffic... won't be a
day before some raptor picks it up for dinner.

Where my mom lived it was coyotes. In any case, feral cats didn't

Around here, it's a busy street corner. Even though I posted photos on
"lost cat" notices and called area vets and the humane society, I suspect I
know where Persia came from. There is a woman down the street who has cats
roaming around all over the place. She got very upset when I got angry at
one of her (other) cats hanging out on my patio. If Persia came from one of
her broods, she's much better off (and happier) living indoors with me and
    my bird 🙂

I stoopidly give people around here the benefit of doubt. I would think
they wouldn't let their animals roam. But they do. Dumb asses that they
are. It makes me very angry.I'll shut up now lest I get ignorant.

Same here, Jill...I live on one of the busiest streets in Indianapolis
(for those of you from *really* big cities, that would be the
equivalent of your 20th busiest street), and I'm appalled at how many
people let their cats come and go "because they want to be freeeee!".
No they don't. Well, okay, the feral ones might, since that's all they
know, but the non-feral strays? Why do you think they're hanging out
around your door begging for food? They're hoping the offer of food
    will include lodging!

Then again, these are the same neighbors who keep their dogs chained up
on fairly short chains, day and night, summer and winter...and when you
suggest that perhaps they should find the nice doggy a home where s/he
will have room to run around...heaven forbid! They loooove their
doggy! Yeah, I can tell. I love their doggies too - that's why I'm on
a first name basis with so many of the guys at Animal Control.

Okay, let me ask again...has Persia started reading over your shoulder?
Because Tasha has suddenly decided that she *must* sit on my shoulder
and start avidly at the screen when I'm on-line. She doesn't do this
with books yet...but I figure the only thing keeping her from getting
her own ISP account is the lack of a credit card.

ROFL Persia is always on my tummy when I'm on the couch reading a book.
She has determined that is the purrrfect time to nudge my hand and nip
(gently) at my wrist and elbow, thus disrupting the plot for kitty
scritches. She also snuggles next to me for naps or bedtime. Then when she
deems we should wake up (like now) she touches my nose with her paw. It's a
little disconcerting to open your eyes and see a paw headed towards your
nose (!) but she's nice about it. She just gently *boops* me with her paw,
or sometimes lays it gently on my cheek. And then she purrs really loud by
my ear. Sometimes I can get away with saying, "It's not time yet" and
she'll acquiesce and curl up next to me and wait about 30 minutes. Then
*boop* and purr again until I get up 🙂 Goofy cat!

Do I walk my cat? No! (tried that once... she hunkered down and

When I was taking care of a cat back in college, I used to exercise her by
exploiting her gluttony: She LOVED canned cat food. So I'd carry the can
upstairs and open it. Hearing the opening can, the cat would come running.
Then I'd run about 10-15 laps up and down the stairs with the can, and the
cat would follow right along on every lap, eyes unwaveringly on that can.
To top it off, I'd put her food dish on top of the dryer so she had to jump
up to get it. Though her sides would be heaving, she never failed to make
the jump, even though she was quite overweight.

Well, that was twenty years ago, when I would think nothing of playing two
hours of racquetball, riding my bicycle home four miles, then going to play
a game or two of softball. The stair-laps were just extra fun with the cat!
