Waterford bikes?

There's a Waterford factory tour and ride July 7th (Evanston Bicycle Club
and Kenosha-Racine Club). If you are nearby, I'll tell you more.

During the first bankruptcy/reorg of Schwinn, one of the family, Richard
Schwinn, took over the high-end Schwinn plant in Waterford, Wisconsin. He
had to change the name, though, and thus Waterford was born. They produce
Waterford, Gunnar, and some frames for other people -- I think they still do
the frames for Heron. A number of people in our club have them and seem
quite pleased. This doesn't include me, so I can't add anything more.

I have one. It's actually a Schwinn Paramount, built at the Waterford
factory, which turned into Waterford (the Schwinn Paramount project)
namesake. I love mine. If you do a bit of googling, there's a long
rapsheet of Waterford's terrific-ness on the usenet.

Every Waterford frame I've seen has been crackerjack; well thought
out, well constructed and very nicely finished. And, in today's
market, they are a bargain.

They also produce recumbent bike frames for the Volae brand, and have
the same great reputation for quality and value in that market
segment.

I own a Gunnar Sport, which is made by Waterford. My bike is TIG welded True
Temper OX Platinum tubing with a Waterford level paint job. They do a really
nice job. Nice welds, beautiful paint. Plus they're really nice people to
deal with. If you call, there's a good chance you'll speak to Richard
Schwinn himself.

No first hand experience, but the folks at Yellow Jersey bike
shop in Madison, WI rave about them. I trust their opinion.
