Pool's open and I finally got a chance to get in. It's amazing that I can be quite aerobically fit on dry land and yet rather winded after only a few laps in the pool. I know that once my muscles remember, I'll get up to speed quickly, but still it always surprises me.
But, even my brief swim did remind me of the only thing I dislike about swimming: the water that gets in your ear and stubbornly refuses to come out, no matter how you shake your head or lie on your side. Eventually, it does of course (I haven't had swimmer's ear in years <touches wood>😉, but it is annoying. Is there any trick to getting it to getting it out? Do ear plugs work or do they just make you temporarily hard of hearing and still have water in the ear?

Thanks, Martha
I've always just grabbed an eyedropper and dripped some rubbing alcohol in there.
Here's a trick I learned a few years back. This involves no devices and equipment, no need to jump and doesn't even require you to leave the pool:
When you get water in your ear while in the pool: 1. Determine which ear has water. You get a clue by tapping your temple with the base of your palm. 2. Grab a handful of pool water with your hand. If it's the right ear, use the right hand. If left ear, use the left. 3. Bend sideways so the ear is pointing up. 4. Let a FEW drops of water TRICKLE down from your hand's index or pinky finger into your ear. 5. Because of the water's property of cohesion, the water in your ear will "join" the the few drops that just trickled in and the greater volume will now easily flow. 6. Bend sideways to the opposite side so that all the water now flows out.
It's very easy to do and does the work every time! After showering at every swim, I put a few drops of 50% vinegar 50% alcohol solution to flush out and cleanse whatever is in the ears. In all my years of swimming, I haven't had a single bout of ear infection.
