Amazing that they both managed to carry on after the first one - the
second time around was unbelievably bad luck for Sella.

Both of them were really bad luck. In my opinion, it was Mori who
overcooked it both times, and both Sella's crashes were consequential.
You could see Mori had lost confidence after the first crash and that's
what led to the second - but brilliant courage, both of them, to keep
racing with such intensity after two such crashes.

What was really sad about it, I thought, was how well they had been
working together - Mori gave Sella the last of his water, which was a
generous gesture. And if it hadn't been for the crashes they would
probably have got first and second for the stage.

Having said that, a simply amazing effort to get back on - twice - and
end up with third and fourth.

Can someone please confirm which number stage this was? I'd go and
look it up, but I'm afraid of reading a spoiler while searching. I
haven't seen any of theresults at all yet.

Lot's of the Giro stages are up on usenet atm, so there's a good
chance this one is there.

Stage 12, Livorno - Sestri Levante (170km), was the one I was writing
about. But yesterday's stage, stage 13, Alessandria - La Thuile (218 km)
was also a cracker. Today's was comparatively boring.

Thanks for that Simon. Stages 12 and 13 are posted but it seems those
ones unfortunately only have the last 20 or 30 minutes of the day's
ride, but, beggars can't be choosers. I'll grab 'em now and have a
little look. Cheers.

If anyone is interested there is coverage of a number of the Giro
stages in alt.binaries.multimedia.sports at the moment. I can see 1,
3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12 and 13.
