  1. I saw a picture of a Della Santa frame that had the "rainbow stripe" decal.
Is that because Lemond won the Worlds on a Gitane labeled DS in 1983 ?

If memory serves, Greg won the World Championship in '83 on a Della Santa
but with someone else's label on it. He won the 1989 World Championship
supposedly on a Bottecchia but I've never seen a close up photo of the
specific bike he rode so I couldn't say. I will say that the top end
Bottecchias and the Della Santas I've seen were very similar.

I'd say it came from his win at Junior Worlds in the road race.

Where is Kenny De Marteleire (sp) these days?

Incorrect. He rode a LeMond that day. He felt no obligation to ride
his sponsor's bike because they hadn't paid him in a while.

Note to the original poster - use of the rainbow bands among
framebuilders is only by tradition. Anyone of us could build a frame
and put the rainbow bands on it, world championship or not.

Rolland Della Santa builds bikes almost indistinguishable from the top end
Bottecchias of that time. You can still get one since he's still building up
    in Reno.

As I said, I've never seen a picture with enough detail to be able to tell
whether it was a Bottecchia or a Della Santa though I would imagine it to
the the Della Santa because Greg always had some fit issues. One of his
bikes that I personally saw had a 52 cm seat tube and a 56 cm (if memory
serves) top tube. But I don't see why Bottecchia couldn't have built him a
custom bike. They certainly did build him a custom TT bike.

In '89 for most of the tour and the worlds he rode a TVT carbon bike.
For the worlds it was labelled Lemond. In '90 his whole team was on
    Lemond badged TVTs.

He only rode those in the mountains. You could tell the TVT's from the
others because they didn't have the purple paint on them but instead used
the black carbon in the yellow fade. And I'm pretty sure that he rode all
Bottecchia labels. They had his TT bike at a shop over in Walnut Creek I
believe and I stopped by and looked at it and it was definitely labeled
    Bottecchia.

That is only because Schwartz is not king of the world.
