Welcome to the past. When I was a kid, I was a ham radio operator. It
was just for a short while. Still, there were all kinds of esoteric
shorthands. When it takes sometimes four keystrokes to make a single
letter, spelling things out in full wasn't fun.

I spent 25 years in computer software. We had many words that expressed
many sentences worth of info. If both parties knew it, a lot of time
was saved.

Sometimes in the medical profession, a few seconds is the difference
between life and death. Many words have been invented that express
whole sentences.

What about CB radio? Looks like we got us a convoy! It wasn't all about
those stupid movies. I used CB to drive long distances and it sure came in
handy.

Good point! Really, the whole "text message speak" thing annoys me. If I
were attempting to hire someone and they wrote in such a manner they'd be
tossed out the door before they even stepped through it. Can you picture
their resumes? They may not be illiterate but they certainly come across as
such.
