Well I just saw my first pavement cyclist wipe out a pedestrian in full 'bullet-time' slo-mo. I'd seen a prat cycling on the pavement for some time and was gradually catching up with him. It was taking a little while 'cos I kept stopping for red lights. Last one I stopped for before catching him up was a pedestrian crossing, that he actually used to cross the busy dual carriageway we were on, without dismounting, of course. Got caught at the next set and whilst waiting, caught sight of him tazzing down the pavement on the other side of the road.....noticed he was daydreaming and looking back over his shoulder at 'something'....noticed the newspaper girl walking down the 10ft path back onto the pavement with her dayglo-green-easily- seen paper bag....noticed him look forwards and her look up a split second before they clashed. Both went down.... He shot up, picked up his bike, parked it to one side, bent down to check on girl. She was partly obscured to my view by now. I could see her left arm had come up as if she was lying on her back and feeling her head. He was looking around and talking to her....... Lights changed and I was off... ...I let him know what I thought of pavement cyclists who don't pay attention, along the lines of "..and that's why cyclists are supposed to use the road, you w*nker!!..." . He looked up, so obviously heard, but don't think it'll make a blind bit of difference.
Hope the girl's ok!...would've loved to have stayed and helped, but you know....and there were plenty of other foklks around...hopefully they've lynched him by now. I'll offer my services as witness to the police later.

heh-heh...would've assumed that too if I'd have read it...I don't think another one of gods little helpers would've made much difference...and I'd have probably decked the cyclist. Just like thepolice advert, do you think you could do the job of keeping the paedophile safe from the baying mob....don't think I could...

So long as you're sure that's the case (and why shouldn't you be you were there).
The thing is that as I read it it looks like you witnessed it first hand and were close to the scene, (I wasn't) but didn't stop for whatever reason. Maybe because you could see plenty of others in attendence. And quite rightly all that's need at an accident scene is someone to assess the situation and give comfort if required, a first aider ideally to stop someone else doing something dangerous to the injured party (if nothing else), someone to contact the emergency services if required and someone (possibly more than one) to slow down other traffic if need be. After that any extra people are just in the way and may impede the emergency services.
But you can't assume someone else has got things in hand.

I think I'd still have stopped, if only to let the other cyclist know you saw everything, and to pass on to all concerned a note of your name and address/phone number. You did say you'd offer your services as a witness to police later, but would they have been called ? And if they were called would they do anything ? If the accident was _that_ bad maybe you should have called police. Better twelve calls to one accident than twelve people thinking 'Oh there's loads of people about, someone else will call ...' I also think that as you believed that police were to be involved, then you should have stayed, no matter what the "but you know.." issue was.
Your call though, you saw the situation, your conscience.

Actually, I am a doctor, but that's not what he meant. And I do know basic first aid, but he wouldn't let me help.
If Dave had ever had this kind of experience he probably wouldn't think first of stopping.

Knew I should have held back a while before posting....yes it did sound a little callous, rather more disturbed by the scene than I thought...yes there were others attending to the situation, don't think I could've helped anymore....gave details and statement to police after posting thread last night, no feedback yet and nothing in local press to indicate it got anymore serious than that (yet).
