Vuelta a Castilla y Leon : 2006

Should be a good battle, both sides have some talented riders. Vino and Sanchez (who I think will go on to do big things) up against a DC team with Rubiera, Acevedo, Beltran and Popovych.

Two times up the cat 1 climb of Navacerrada tomorrow so I think that this stage is the crunch point. Maybe a breakaway could win though, if Liberty and DC are marking each other too much.

Anyone know where a profile is available? Cycling news doesn't seem to have very good coverage of this race.
My overall prediction? Vino hangs in there and takes the overall.

Agreed : Liberty on home turf will want the win more and this will be the impetus.

I haven't been able to find a profile for the stages either.

The Puerto is listed as 11.5 km at 6.5% somewhere on cyclingnews.
But they go up it different directions each time.

Thanks for the link. Now I know the name of the climb I went to www.salite.ch to find the real profiles. First time they go up the climb it looks like this:

And the second time up, when the race finishes at the top of the climb it looks like this:

So not as hard the second time round but their legs will be more tired. Easily enough of a climb to put in big time gaps but definitely not a 1st catagory climb by GT standards (maybe second cat).

Vino takes the last stage, the GC and the points classification!!!!!!!!

He overan Popovych and Pena as the peloton was within a few seconds of the two as they approached the line and Vino just went! Awesome performance.

An on form Vino is good for cycling and everyone around it. Does anyone have a race profile on this stage? Hard to tell whether it was flat, climb, etc.

Two large ( greater than 800m elevation gain) climbs, the second of which was 70km before the finish, so easily enough time for the peloton to regroup though the chase will have been disrupted by that. Good breakaway attempt, Pena would have easily won the stage over Popovych if Vino hadn't been there.

Nice debut for Vino in the Liberty colours - a very impressive result.
