I think that there have been a hell of a lot of riders with saucepans up their backsides- practically de rigeur.
Interesting remarks about King Kelly. It's curious how some cheats become reviled whereas the reputations of others remain largely untouchable. -

But I wouldn't say that anyone's reputation is "untouchable". They will appear to be untouchable until $h!t hits the fan (read that as direct evidence of malpractice).
Edited to add: This is probably one of the reasons why LA has run away from anything to do with cycling.

Still one of my favorite riders, but, Kelly raced on PDM during the "bad" times.

LOL that Virenque in 1997 didn't use Ferrari because it would have been too obvious what he was up to... should have just said that he was getting nutritional advice.
