Victoria Station -- bike storage?

That's Victoria station in London, BTW.

No need to reply! Platform 7/8 have cycle parking.

Far end of platforms 7 & 8 - about as far from the ticket barriers as
you can get, in the dark, well-hidden bit behind the Gatwick Express
check-in.

often seems to be oily for some reason.

ps, I've had problems with my new wheels. After breaking a spoke on the
Thorne-Edinburgh, I had them rebuilt by Harry Rowlands in Ramsgate who found
no end of problems with them (greasy nipples, wrong pattern, consequently
spokes too long...). Well, at least I've found a real wheelbuilder now; and
I've never seen a truer wheel.

Another option, if you have about 10 minutes spare, is to take it over
towards Pimlico. I live round there, and as long as the QRs are
secured, it should be fine.

Bring along a bike bag. Or just a big plastic bag.
Take bike to left luggage office at station. It will be X-rayed before
they store it. Should cost £10 or £15.
My cousin left his road bike at Liverpool St in a similar fashion.

BTW, depending on the time of day you can take a bike on the sub-surface
tube lines in London. So you could take it via Circle Line/Hammersmith and
City and leave it closer to your destination. Take a good lock.

Yup, take it to left luggage. Cheaper than I though.
£3 per item, though they might hit you for £5.
As I say, bring along a poly survival bag,
or I think CTC sell plastic bike bags.

I'm actually arriving at Waterloo, spending an evening at the Palais and
leaving from Victoria. I thought the bike would be safer left at a station
than in Hammersmith. I'll ride over to Hammersmith if it's better to leave
it there.

one of my cow orkers has had a claim going with railtrack after
slipping on their shiny platfrom and breaking an ankle for a few years
now.

Simon; Platform 17 has a CCTV'd area where all us commuters now have to
leave non-folders, and as it's beyond the barrier in theory more secure.

It's official, there is a ward, and it's free.

I had no problem yet, but it's pretty crowded (the maximum 2 months rule
doesn't seem to be applied) and it's difficult to attach a bike securely
to these overcrowded strange bike racks.

I use it because I just live there, but it's quite far from Victoria.

Unfortunately, Simon will be arriving on the other line, so won't have
access to platform 17 without coming out through the barriers then going
back in.

not a prob; just walk thru the gate and flash a ticket you'll be fine;
I do it every night (and don't fold my bike as it doesn't ATM due to a
bust bracket). SET/Southern don't own the platform or even the trains.

I am also in the same position. I got the following mail from the train
people. . . but am now booked into a hostel supossedly with bike storage
facilities. . .
