    My pal just bought a Ventana X-5, and loves it except for one small
    thing - the FD is a TP/TS XT that works, mostly. Ventana calls for a
    TP/BS FD, of which there are few, and are not suited for the steep seat
    tube angle of the X-5.

    Somebody out there has built one of these, and knows the perfect FD for
    it - which one would that be?

    BTW, he tried a SRAM X-gen FD, and it didn't work, due to seat-tube
    angle issues.

    I run a very similar speced Turner 5-Spot and run an XT TP/BS front
    derailer. The seat tube on the X-5 is slacker than the 5 Spot and the FD
    wasn't hard to obtain, either.

    73 degrees, as opposed to what some of the FD specs say is the range
    they'll work on 67-71 - IIRC. He's had a hassle with every TP/BS FD
    he's tried.

    I'm showing 71.6 for the really small frame up to 74.1 for the 21". My 19"
    5 Spot is listed as 73.5 and the derailer works flawlessly.

    I'll have to get that tonight. Whatever I have on there works well, I'm
    pretty sure I put on what Turner recommended and I'm sure it's XT level.

    Careful of your terms. The seat tube angle is the angle of the seat
    tube relative to horizontal (90 being perpendicular to the ground. The
    seattube/chainstay angle given by shimano is the ange measured between
    the centerline off the seat tube and the centerline of the chainstay.

    I have run XT-M761 DS F-derail, T/B-pull uni-band on several turners as
    well as a ventana.

    Careful of your terms. The seat tube angle is the angle of the seat
    tube relative to horizontal (90 being perpendicular to the ground. The
    seattube/chainstay angle given by shimano is the ange measured between
