Scheduled to take one for the team in mid March...just about when the
weather will break in the spring. Dr. said to expect to wait a week before
resuming exercise but said it might take significantly longer for cycling.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?

really said that (although it sounds quite plausible).Oh, wait -- you mean if what the doc /reportedly/ said was correct!
Different matter. My friend who had the snip-snips was back on his mtb in ~2 weeks IIRC; good
as new (well, considering!) after 3 weeks or so...Bill "still intact, TYVM" S.

with the individual. I have to remember back a ways, personally (which may
itself invalidate the data, since medical tech has advanced since then) but
ISTR it was a couple of weeks before I was comfortable "clenching" for
extended periods, and longer than that before pressure (such as compression
from cycling shorts) was tolerable for very long. But once the incisions have healed (a few days) and the swelling (if any) is
gone, it will do no harm to try -- only to push the issue if it hurts too
much. Don't sign up for any races or schedule your car into the shop around
then.RichC

Good luck.

At least! I jumped the gun after three days and added a week to my
recovery! I felt fine and I wanted to ride. Maybe other guys need
more time to recover, but not me! How stupid. Take it slow my freind.
You may feel great, but after five minutes I those snips were looming
large! -

Can anyone confirm or deny this? Will let you know in a few days; 106 hours since the 'procedure'. Dr.
said 5 days at the earliest, two weeks at the latest. A friend who
had the deed done last summer waited two weeks, said he might have
been able to go after one. So far I am thinking I will try at one
week ....- rick

agree
do not rush it.

So the big question is: why wait for March? If you've hung up the
cycling gear for winter, what better time to do this 'maintenance'.
I am kicking myself for not doing it last summer when I was sidelined
with a broken hand; now I have to sit it out .. though the winter rains
have made it more amenable to be on the sidelines :-)- rick

I was back on the bike in two days without undue discomfort. i asked
the doc to be extra gentle, and basically wore a bag of frozen peas in
my pants for the first 24 hours. I was running in 3, and did the mt.
taylor quadrathlon at two weeks. -
....thinking back, the best advice I got was to take a couple ibuprofen
PRIOR to procedure, and then a couple more after to forestall
inflamation.d

Can anyone confirm or deny this?Went out today, just a few hours short of 8 days post-procedure.
Could not have done it yesterday, and the 10 miles or so was about all
I could handle, but it feels as if I can start picking it back up now.BTW, to be the contrarian to what someone else suggested, do not take
any NSAIDs before the procedure. NSAIDs like Ibuprofen, Naproxen,
etc., tend to thin the blood and some doctors will not operate if you
have taken NSAIDs too soon before they cut. I took one Tylenol about
3 hours post-procedure, and a couple more in the next couple of days.
Did not need any ice or other drugs, though this will vary from person
to person.- rick

When my dog was neutered he was fine within a couple of days. Why
would any self respecting MAN get himself fixed? If you are in a
committed relationship it is your duty to tell your woman to get on the
pill. If not you have to bag it anyway to prevent getting skanked and
that will prevent pregancy . Think about how you will feel walking
around knowing you are shooting blanks. You'll probably feel alot like
a fixed dog. They lose something after being fixed. You will too. -

I had it done in Dec. and had a short ride about a week later. Was
running and riding any distance 10 days later. HTH and Good Luck.--RW

Can anyone confirm or deny this?I have not read any of the other posts, so this post may be just another
me too. I had a vasectomy back in July. My doctor told me to wait two
weeks before getting back on the bicycle. I felt like getting back on
the bike in one week, but I decided to follow his advice. When I went
back for my two-week check in to make sure things were healing well, he
suggested waiting another two weeks. I couldn't bear waiting that long.
I waited maybe 3 or 4 days and I got back on the bicycle with no
adverse effects. I think my doctor was a bit more cautious than most
considering his surgery techniques and the amount of time he wanted to
wait before doing the two sperm count checks, 6 and 12 weeks out,
respectively. I think it is better to be safe than sorry. But as far
as getting back on the bike, four weeks seemed a little excessive, so
you might guage it on how you feel. I started out slowly when I got
back on the bike, and gently ramped back up to my regular hard riding ways. -

doesn't: I lost nothing. In fact, I'm better because I'm more relaxed
since there's no worry about "my woman" getting pregnant. No worry
about the condom breaking. No worry about her "forgetting" to take the
pill or something going wrong with the pill. In fact, if you tell "your
woman" to get on the pill, and she agrees, there is a chance for side
effects that effect her libido. No need to risk this and other side
effects now. Any self respecting MAN, who knows he never wants to have
children or never wants to have any more children, would take
responsibility for the contraception and not try to shift his
responsibility onto "his woman." A condom is one option. A vasectomy
is another. -
I don't own a woman but I have a lovely wife who's given me 3 wonderful
kids. She cycles also and it's been no small sacrifice on her part. I'm
giving her freedom from worry and possible side effects from other methods.
I think this gives me much more cause for self respect than my sperm count.
I got nothing to prove and I'm not losing any thing but the "bags". I won't
miss them (and their 90% effectiveness) much anyway.I won't insult you like the other posters but we see things alot
differently.<[email hidden]> wrote in message

Apparently, "jabario" doesn't understand the difference between
castration and a vasectomy? Very rarely would any MAN get castrated,
particularly by choice (!!?). "Jabario" might want to learn the
difference between the two procedures before he makes unfounded
statements regarding vasectomy. Not to mention, "jabario's" attitude
smacks of bravado and lack of self esteem. Can this be considered
"penis envy"?Sky

2) Side effects from 'the pill' can be problematic for some women.
Better if they can go off contraceptives and leave the birth control
to the male in the relationship.
3) 'bagging it' is even less effective.
4) When one is in their 50's they do not necessarily want a baby
around; having a child hit puberty when one is retiring is not
necessarily a good thing.
5) Some of my friends have had 'the procedure' after having the
maximum number of children they wanted to father; shooting blanks
means no worries about exceeding what they want.
6) A dog that is fixed loses the capability of producing hormones as
well; a vasectomy merely interrupts the delivery system so the
swimmers cannot get out. All the hormone production remains intact. Now, go get a life ...
