I have noticed that as a rider, I tend to have a fairly high VI as a result of the type of rider I am. In essence I am a rider who enjoys changes of pace, accelerations and climbs but who does not enjoy or do well when the riding is steady / hard for an extended duration (such as when a rolling parcours in a crosswind)
In our team rides I find that I am often the rider changing the pace or attacking on a climb but will then need a decent recovery before becoming active again - once recovered I find myslef back on the front pacing for say 15-20 mins etc etc.
In looking at other riders on the same ride, the more constant and smooth paced riders generate a lower VI I think..
My question revolves around using this metric in CP to help evaluate a riders profile (along with the obvious power profile) because I feel it may offer a good insight.
My PP is that of an all rounder but the reality is that I am much more suited and enjoy varied hard pace - therefore I need to work on the weakness.
What do you think - I would collate and monitor data on a new rider to the coaching service and use the VI to highlight strengths / weaknesses ??
