Well it's fairly easy to be honest - fly into Salt Lake City, hire a car to
drive to Moab, then hire bikes there. MTBing is such big business there that
there are masses of places renting bikes, from cheap rigid through to top of
the range full sussers. It's a fantastic place - you can pick up a book of
local trails and there are enough to keep you busy for months... Personally
I recommend Bartlett Wash, and, obviously, the Slickrock trail

Can anyone recommend a destination other than Moab? a place a bit
less crowded? Someplace with a similar feeling and experience?

If you don't mind single track and some height you might enjoy Lauterbrunnen

great parties down in InterLaken and Lauterbrunne.
