Any chance he is misreading the SN? They can be hard to read. Other than that, if you posted a picture link, someone might notice something obvious.

Have you seen the serial number yourself? The reason I ask is that RANS bikes typically have most of
the serial number filled in with power coating, and they can be almost impossible to read. So he
might think the number is PM 9020, when the reality could be anything. My impression is that the
only way to know the number for sure is with the original sales receipt and warranty card.

A V-Rex serial number will start with "VR" then the 2 digit month and then the 2 digit year followed
by 4 more digits. Example VR01000001 = the first V-Rex built in Jan 2000.

When I inspected the bike at the time of purchase it appears to be identical to a photograph of a
2000 V-Rex and rides well so I now have a V-Rex....I hope. Upon close inspection the number on
the bottom

be certain. The SN on this bike is not even close to the number system Brian stated should be
present on a V-Rex so I don't know what to think. I will email Rans and report their response here.
Or maybe I will just forget it and go riding :-)

3. Serial Number Information

RANS S/N Code (effective from 1998 onward):

Model Code (2 Letters) Date Code (Four Digits, Month and Year) Unit Number (Four Digits) XX
07 00 0001

Serial numbers are stamped into the frame-- either on the bike's bottom bracket or on the inside
left rear-wheel dropout. If the number is illegible, RANS will provide a permanent self-adhesive
serial number to identify the bike.

Thanks John, that is exactly the information I was hoping to get!

RANS has yet to respond to my email query concerning the SN

ask the order taker about the SN. He checked with Dave who stated that the PM indicates that this
was one of the prototype fames that meet specifications and was built up and sold. He was at a loss
to explain the rest of the SN.
