V-brake enquiry

Hi all,

Sorry if want ads are banned in this group, but I've been searching for a
2nd-hand v-brake setup for a while now with no luck.

I currently have ye olde XT M-brakes and even with new pads they're not that
confidence-inspiring off-road, esp after trying a friend's discs! They're
also a pain to set up when you buy new shoes....

Any ideas for sourcing v-brake calipers on a tight budget?

Well your enquiry isn't really an ad, so I can't really see any prob at all. What area/state are you in so people can give advice about obtaining components?

Here in Melboring my shop of choice is Abbotsford Cycles at Richmond Station. Peter and his friendly staff are more than happy to deal with questions regarding odd bits and pieces. For example, a friend lost the placcy cover off her rear light, instead of buying another entire light, Peter found another cover to fit the housing.

Wish all LBS's were like that with customer service.. so if you're in Melb, there's a tip. If not, hopefully others will chime in helpful advice.

I've got a set of STX-RS, but the RS stands for you-know-what, which is
why I took them off. You can have them for postage.

Lots of LBS's will have 2nd hand stuff lying around, I know we do. It
won't be expensive.

What are "M" brakes?
