Odd, considering that without Lance and the USPS team Pena and Columbia might never have gotten
anywhere near the yellow jersey. I'd guess Pena is quite happy to work for the team and man that got
him the jersey in the first place.

How do you know that Lance is ordering the riders back? And even if he is, that makes each of the
team members an a-hole?

Why is Pena in yellow? The TTT. Why did USPS have such a good showing in it? Armstrong's success
allowed USPS to get a very strong team, and Armstrong's attention to detail entailed them getting
ready for the ride.

The goal of Postal is to win the Tour, not to play some "King for the day(s)" game you think they
should play.
The race could come down to a matter of seconds. You use your resources according to plan.
WRT whether this was the norm before 1999: Maybe Postal improved the state of the art relative to
pre-1999. But I don't think so. The model of a "strong team leader" goes way back, and indeed was
the norm before the La Vie Claire days.

In an interview the other day on OLN, Pena commented that every he tried to take a pull, Lance told
him "You're in the Yellow Jersey, get back there and enjoy it. The impression I got from VHP was
that he was so grateful for having the opportunity to wear the jersey, he was trying to work even
harder for Lance and the rest of the team.
