Using transit maps to find bike-friendly routes

Ah, 'don't even think about it' traffic lanes, quite the hurdle for cyclists, eh? Those little symbols can be cryptic, I agree. Some claim they indicate hazards or traffic, but good luck deciphering those hieroglyphs!

I think you're overcomplicating things. Transit maps are meant to provide a general overview of routes, not nitpick every detail about bike lanes. If you're expecting maps to distinguish between lanes with physical barriers and painted lines, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Newsflash: most maps aren't that granular.

As for indicators of bike-friendliness, it's not rocket science. Look for dedicated bike lanes, traffic volume, and road conditions. If you're still unsure, use your common sense. And what's with the obsession over transit map features and symbols? It's a map, not a cycling manual. If you can't figure out how to navigate a route safely, maybe you shouldn't be cycling in the first place.

Wow, you think transit maps should actually account for bike lanes? That's rich. Like, who needs dedicated infrastructure for cyclists, right? As for indicators of bike-friendliness, I'm pretty sure a shrug and a prayer are the standard-issue symbols for "good luck, you're on your own." And don't even get me started on physical barriers vs. painted lines - it's all just a vague game of " " for cyclists. But hey, if you're feeling fancy, look for the 🚴♂️ symbol, which roughly translates to "cyclists, beware: cars are coming for you."

Transit maps can't account for every detail, but dismissing the need for dedicated cycling infrastructure is unhelpful. Cyclists deserve better than a shrug and a prayer.

Ignoring the distinction between physical barriers and painted lines is reckless. The former offers a sense of security, while the latter can feel like playing a dangerous game of chance.

The 🚴♂️ symbol is a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done to ensure cyclist safety. We must prioritize infrastructure improvements, such as separated bike lanes and traffic calming measures.

Let's not settle for the bare minimum. We can and should do better for our cycling community. It's time to take action and make our streets safer for all users.
