Can anyone tell me if the frames are the same on the 2009 4.5 and the 2011 3.1? I found info online that the 11 3.1 is 300 series TCT. The only info I can find on the 09 4.5 is that it's TCT. They are priced at $1000 for the 11 3.1, with 3000 miles on it, and $1200 for the 09 4.5 with less than 500 miles. Any opinions on either one? The components are similar on both, better RD on the older 4.5 and 105 crank vs Apex crank on the newer 3.1. I haven't ridden either one yet. I am coming from a Trek 7.2 FX and don't plan on racing or anything like that. I am just looking for a road bike to go on longer rides, maybe in the 30-50 range. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

the 2009 4.5 if you can certify that it has 500 miles only, a 4 year old bike with that mileage actually means that it has been mostly sitting in the garage, on second thought, both those bikes are nice, really a win win choice

Thanks for the response. I looked at both over the weekend and had serious doubts about the 2009 only having 300 miles. It wasn't beat up, but it didn't look like a bike that had only been ridden 300 miles. The guy also didn't seemed a little sketchy about where he got it. So I was a little worried that it may have been stolen. I ended up buying the 2011 3.1 yesterday. It is in great shape, one small nick on the fork, that was it. I got out for 12 miles last night and so far so good, might be a little long in the reach and I might need a shorter stem. Otherwise I am very happy with it.

The differences between the 300 and 400 series frames aren't anything you'd notice yet, and maybe not even for a lot of years. You did the right thing by buying the one that appeared to be in better shape, and from a more reputable seeming seller. Even at today's MSRP, there's only a $500 difference between the 3.1 and the 4.5, and a lot of that is due to the partial Ultegra drive train and the higher grade Race wheelset on the 4.5.
There also isn't much, if any, difference between a 105 and an Apex crank.

Thanks for the responses. I am happy with it so far, except the saddle, it came off of the guys new Domane 5 or 6 series and it's killing my sit bones. I do think I need a shorter stem, but I haven't gotten in with it for a full on fitting yet. I wanted to get some miles in so I can possibly feel the difference when they start adjusting it.
