I doubt it. I don't ride my bike to work because there are no showers. If I were to join Fitness First across the road, I'd be paying around $15 - $20 each week to use their showers as opposed to $6 every 1.5 - 2 weeks riding my scooter to work. Yes, I'd prefer to ride to work, but it needs to be cost effective as well.

Cost effectiveness & suitability are a big bonus. BTW - going back to the article, take a look at the righthand column *above* the online poll. Now that's what I like to see - a article with comprehensive details to local cycling groups & related information.

High gasoline prices. Long waits at red lights. Pollution from tailpipes. Road rage. That ever-expanding waistline. Don't forget global warming. All are compelling reasons to get out of that fossil fuel-burning car or truck and into the fresh air on a bicycle on the way to work, school or shopping center.

So the good citizens of Tucson are getting the message about commuting, but slightly prefer the smogbox option, hot showers and don't care much for bling. Would the results be similar here in Aus or rather different?

only two things are needed to get me to cycle to work

1) a uni timetable that allows for me to have 1 hour to get to work by 4pm (nope, isnt happening)

2) a safe bicycle path once you get off junction rd and onto the roundabout before the metroplex at murarrie in brisbane. because i freak out scooting through there, let alone cycling!

on the other hand, once the weather warms up, i am going to be cycling to work on saturday mornings, as there arent as many trucks around.

before work moved out to the metroplex, i cycled every single day, no matter the weather or how much i had to carry on my commute (panniers rock!)
now i must settle for a hairdryer on wheels... *j/k, i really do love my scooter*

Judging by the collection of metal in my work bikeroom, the bling
factor is about right. My trick machines, personalities in their own
rights, insist on the far corner slot away from the unwashed hordes.
