Urgent: Do the Time Out Survey

One of the things I hated about London was being asked to participate in
surveys. The Golgafrinchans use the results to make what you want cost
you more.

I left that bit blank and filled the rest in. I find myself on a bike in
London for 2 or 3 hours a year, which I suspect is above the mean for
Londoners, and definitely above the median, so I feel justified in writing.

Last time I visited London was 5 years ago, test riding recumbents.
Last time I cycled there other than test riding recumbents was 2 or 3
years before that, and I've only cycled in London 2 or 3 times.
Probably best that I didn't continue, then.

I filled it in primarily to try to subvert the obvious attempt to get a
news story that says "Our survey says that cyclists are homicidal
pavement cycling red light jumping law disregarding lycra louts" which
seemed to be the thrust of the questions.

But it was mainly aimed at motorists and pedestrians from the questions
posed and it was to counterbalance them, not other cyclists......never
mind its closed now.

In stitches at Tony Raven. Well done Tony - anyone who makes marketers
tear their hair out by skewing their skewed 'surveys', gets my
congratulations. Whenever surveyed by such sharks, online, in the
street, or on paper, I lie automatically, convincingly and proudly.
Whoever composed their survey had not the slightest intention of coming
to representative conclusions on cycling in London, so it would be
positively naive to be honest when filling it in. In my experience they
may well add a random 'correction' to make up for the fact that the
responses don't match what the marketing department/journalist is
promoting/assuming.The resulting article is bound to be more than
irritating.

Hopefully, some cyclist from the ngp or elsewhere has added to their
self-induced despair by emailing them to complain about the slant of
the survey and (most importantly), promising never to buy Time Out
again. Marketers estimate that 'for one person who bothers to write in,
1000* are of the same opinion'.
