Okay, so, back to what this thread is supposed to be about. So u like riding in the 'woods' hey? I would luv to ride in the 'woods' all day but I don't drive and their ain't any 'woods' around here for at least 50-60km. So I have to resort to urban, which isn't too bad! I haven't had any major crashes yet, skin has only met the pavement once and that was three years ago! No, for some reason with all the crazy stuff I do (which is very tame to sum of the stuff I've seen) I always seem to land on my feet, heh. Guess me is just lucky, anyway datz why concrete doesn't bother me. I don't have a digital camera but my current bike is an old, rundown, dual suspension, Apollo LDX2.1. However this Thursday I'm getting a GIANT Rincon. It's nothing spectacular but it's all I could afford and I decided to go for the hard tail cause I'm sick of adjusting the rear shocks, and the annoyuing noises they make.

I have a Giant Iguana Disc.
And I would rather stay off the streets, because American drivers think they own the road...therefore they will do some stupid crazy stuff to get you off of 'their' road.

I think that is partly why Mountain Biking is popular here.

I also like destroying nature...... :p

Personally I like whatever riding I can get but BLDR if you are doing urban assault on a Giant Rincon then you are going to want to be careful. Its just not set up for big drops and jumps.

As a responsible moderator I should also point out that riding on footpaths in Australia can land you in trouble with the police. I researched this the hard way by copping a $49 fine (and I wasn't even doing any jumping, just riding along)

I won't reply to that first comment, but as for Urban Assault on a rincon. I haven't got it yet and I won't be doing anythin stupid on it. At the moment I have an Apollo that is already falling apart so I don't care if I break it.

MudGrrl, sounds like a nice piece of machinery. I wanted the Iguana but it was too expensive.
If I did have the money I would have got the XtC2 Disc. That is an awsome bike!

$49 is pretty harsh, was it a first offence? I got caught once but they gave me a warning. Now I do most of my stuff in the backstreets and schoolgrounds.

No, I haven't touched it yet. I am still getting a feel for what I need... and am still learning about bikes in general.

For example- I went out on a 20 mile ride, and towards the end it wouldn't shift into the 3rd chainring.
So, I bring it home, consult some sources, and try to fix it myself (I have this thing about self reliance)...

I thought I fixed it, until I got to the end of my next ride, and it started doing the same thing again.

It was still under warranty so I just brought it in to the shop I bought it from.

I swear to god, the bike mechanic was shooting me the evil eye..then he told me never to try to fix my bike again!!!!!

I am not going back there again.

It's my bike, dammit, I'll fack it up if I want to!!!!!

MudGrrl: OOOOOOoooooooo..... The evil eye, now thatz sumthing u don't want from somone who's gonna repair your bike. Who knows what he could've done.

I tried a D.I.Y repair job when my free wheel came loose. I didn't get an evil eye though, when I brought it in the guy sniggered at me then told me that I'd snapped the axel and it was gonna cost over AU$100 to replace. That may not sound like much but for me it's HEAPS!!! So I just left it and replaced the wheel with one out of the Bike Cemetary (old rusting bikes of my family spread through the backyard) and it has lasted for three months but now I'm getting the new bike so....

No, that was on a paved trail that is 45 miles long. I was getting ready for a 42 mile ride in New York City.... which was fun!

Off road I generally do about 14-18 miles. Which isn't much compared to some people I know, but it is still fun.

I like logs, rocks, creeks, hills, trees, and ...mud (who would have guessed).

Keeps you on your toes. You can't think about anything else (work, family, relationships). It's kind of a forced time out for me.
