upgrading 105 hubs

And you are how much faster? How do you know the original bearings weren't grade 25?

In the shimano site the bearings specs aren't
stainless steel for the 105 nor for ultegra but
for durace is specifies (stainless steel) so i figured that
they aren't. I didn't think i would find any significant
difference at first , but the wheels felt so much smoother.
The hubs were one season old about 1000 miles
on them, they were in excelent shape, like new even
the cups and races, no signs of wear. I paid close
to $23 for the bearings and installation, still less
than buying ultegra and much smoother in my opinion.

Material has nothing to do with roundness,which is what grade 25 is all about.

I searched the net and couldn't find what type of bearings come
on the 105's. I found that only DURA ACE and XTR specify grade
25 bearings someplace. Although 105 may or may not have these bearings, after installing them on these hubs, I felt a significant difference to my surprise. Don't get me wrong I really like the 105's. I think they roll more now and may have picked up some speed as well, can't tell you how much faster (mph) but there is something there. Thats why I'm asking if anyone has tried this and got similar results. Your opinion is welcomed on my modification to the hubs.

Even if it really doesn't, but you feel it does, you already have an advantage over your mates.

Can speed be increased with higher grade bearings or higher quality cartridge type bearing hubs everything else being equal?
