Question: should uni be an Xgames sport

    - yes
    - no
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

should uni be an Xgames sport...i think it would be cool..there could be
a street comp like with skate and biking, a trials event to replace the
halfpipe, and a muni event to replace downhill mtb. also we could have
a freestyle event.... i thought this would be a cool idea...how bout
    you?

  4. i say no. the x-games made a huge mistake when they allowed snowmobiles
and motocross bikes in. Those should be grouped with Nascar type
events because the power is not human power. Street luge is also kind
of a dumb one and this was proven when a few years ago, a competitor in
another sport (downhill rollerblading i believe) took up street luging
during the week of X-games....meaning his first luge ever was that
week...and ended up winning gold. Any sport that a beginner can win is
obviously not about skill and in this case probably more about body
weight. The same thing happened with the snowmobile-cross. Some
relative novice took home the gold.

If X-games had stood true to sport rather than vehicle racing I would
be all for uni in the games.

  5. It will never happen...

The X-Games is a totally corporate venue

Look: They don't even have flatland BMX anymore, or much of anything
    else.

Besides, the X-Games don't represent the BEST in any of those sports.
    The majority are coporate-level riders.

And unicyclists aren't capable of backflips, let alone double
backflips. I get sick of the over-use of those two tricks. You don't
know how many times I get asked to do a back flip on my unicycle while
riding on flat ground. It is at least once a week. I blame the
X-games, and its dependency and marketing of backflips on (especially)
    bmx bikes and freestyle moto-x.

Most of the best street/dirt/half-pipe BMXer's have never and would
never qualify for the games, and if they have/did they will/did place
at the bottom of the results lists. Take Mark "The Gonz" Gonzalez (if
I spelled that right), for example. He's got one of the most unique
styles. He's a professional rider capable of technical and original
street/freestyle tricks. Not to mention, he's a crazy underground
'personality' in the BMX world. He would never make it into the games,
even though his trick regiment is totally unique, combined with
elements of old-skool. The X-Games want big and flashy, not technical.

Which is harder: A rail ride or a 5 foot drop? Exactly my point.
X-games viewers with no prior knowledge to those sports featured in the
games would not have the patience for more progressive/tech riding.

I'd like unicycling to stay underground, where the riders stay true to
themselves and the love of the sport. And Il think it'll stay that
way. It's not an easy sport. I've heard people point me out to their
friends, and say "Wow, I didn't know anyone could actually do that!"
under their breath. As long as it's appreciated, that'll be good
enough for me. We've got a really great and pretty tightly connected
community here, and that's all I need.

That's my two cents, rattled off the top of my head, as usual. I think
the other issues with unicycling in the games is handled in other posts
that someone has linked to already

  6. Street lugeing is about skill, but it's about a skill which has alot in
common with downhill rollerblading, therefore that guy was not a novice
by a long shot, he just had to transfer his skills to luge. With
anything on the vert ramp the main power is gravity, not human power,
which puts it in the same category as luge surely? I don't think uni
needs to go to the X-games, do we really want a greater rate of people
taking up the sport? How else would it serve us?

  10. BC wheels can have high speed and big air, but they are so hard to do
things on that it would just be stupid to put it in the x-games. Noone
would be able to do anything very impressive, as compared to
    skateboarding.

They could have a high speed gliding contest.🙂 I think the general
viewers would get quite bored and not appreciate it because they dont
how hard gliding is to learn or any other skills are.

I think it would be cool if some sort of unicycle contest was in the x
games but isn't going to happen. I remember someone saying in a thread
similar to this that about how you cant just jump on a unicycle and
ride like you can skateboard or a bike. And how this makes it alot more
intiminating to learn which would make it hard to become mainstream.

Ya i get the backflip question alot. I cant backflip on the ground. So
how could i do it on a unicycle?

  12. I'd like to see unicycling at the x-games. Then it would be regognised
as an action sport and not just for circus performers. Even though you
cant go at high speeds and get big air it can still be really
    impressive.
Unicycling is currently a sport in FISE (Festival Internatoinal Sport
Extreme) in Europe, There they have street and freestyle riding but i
dont think muni is in it. If it could get into that it might get into
    the x-games eventually.
I dont think people should worry about unicycling becoming mainstreem,
most people would get on and try then just give up.
And yeah, i've been asked plenty to do a backflip on flat ground. It's
    really annoying.

Surely that's a slight exageration, I would have thought mass genocide
    is the worse thing ever.

    skate4flip, I don't know about you but I certainly couldn't just jump
on and ride either a bike or a skateboard, bike must have taken me
weeks to learn and I couldn't skate if my life depended on it.

I don't se why BC can't be take to the heights of skating, it has alot
    of the same elements.

Ok, i think i worded that a little wrong. I'm just saying that compared
to unicycling, biking and skateboarding are a little easier to learn.
They are also less intiminating becaue most people can just stand on a
skateboard with out much help. But with unicycling it is hard just
    getting on the first time.

  16. Sports don't need to be mainstream to be on the X-Games. They just need
to have the look and popularity that the producers think will make good
entertainment. Unicycling probably doesn't, because it may require too
much thinking to watch, along with being slower/lower than some of
    those others.

    Street luge isn't exactly mainstream.

But I think unicycles in the X-Games would be good, as a way to
popularize unicycling. Don't like getting asked if you're in the
    circus? X-Games would help.

Flips: I got asked to do flips for many years before there were
X-Games. They are not the cause of that.

The IUF (International Unicycling Federation) was founded in the
mid-1980s with a goal of (among others) making unicycling an Olympic
sport. It's not happening overnight, but I still think it's a good
    direction to popularize the sport.

Don't worry, it's not going to become mainstream. Riding a bike or
skating may not be instant-learn, but they're many times easier than
    unicycling.

  17. I voted yes, but after reading this I changed my mind, the only reason I
thought it should be was because then I would have somthing to shoot
for,now theres no motivation to get better, but iF IT WERE IN THE x
GAMES IT WOULD BE LIKE " I wanna be as good as those guys in the X
    games"

But I don't want it to go mainstream, and that might do it

I highly disagree. My friend built a wooden street luge and we would
take it on very curvy, rough highways and on my first run I hit 42 mph.
The friend who built it has been up to 73 mph because he weighs 60 lbs
more than me. The more important part is that even at 50 mph, since
you are inches off the ground it's so easy to manuver and isn't scary
at all. There is no balance involved and no technical skill. In the
x-games races, its just arm strength to get you goin fast and then
weight to make you more resistant to friction.....and a sweet leather
    body suit.

Your point about vert being powered by gravity is first disagreeing
with something i didn't say. I said motocross and snowmobilecross are
not human powered. Vert involves plenty of gravity but that doesn't
win the competition for you. You aren't scored on how fast you get
down the vert. The score comes from technical ability. I can sit on a
street luge and make it down a steep stretch of road with no falls on
my first try. Put me on top of a vert ramp on skates and ask me to
drop in and I'll be scared to death.
