Also pretty clueless as to what an 853 frame is. Wonder how much a set up like this would set me back?

853 is a Renoylds frame tube. Was very high end some years ago, still high end steel, but at a good price which you can not say about deda or columbs high end steels.

Ouchee, just checked the price out at CW. That is a chunk of cash. The Surly Long Haul Trucker's looking good for the frame :-)

Test rode a Surly LHT when I dropped in to Abbotsford Cycles (great
shop) and really really really liked it. I've had a look at several hub
dynamos, St Kilda Cycles (another great shop) have a pretty good range,
and I'm quite taken with the Schmidt; not seen the SRAM one before.

Now there's the CFO to convince...thinking bonus on bike rather than on
mortgage :-)
