ultegra short cage or long cage

You really probably should not be using an ultegra with that 32 cog. Large cog spec for it is 27 teeth and they will usually shift a 30. some people do get a 32 to work. Another problem is wrap capacity which you are exceeding badly.Get a shimano MTB long cage.

Different combinations clown. BFWIW, a short cage does work with a triple,and in some combinations will wrap all the chain. In cases where it won't the drill is just avoid the small cogs when in the granny. A smart guy oughta know that. A road triple and a 32 cog really is Asking a bit much of a short cage ultegra. Didn't say it couldn't be made to work,but life does get easier with a better choice of RD for the job.

its actually a 12-25 cassette

It works,but likely won't wrap all the chain when in the granny and smaller cogs. You are dealing with 35 teeth of wrap,and coservative spec on the ultegra SC is 29. If you want to use as many small cogs as possible,get a long caage,otherwise just stick with the bigger cogs when in the granny and consider the granny a bailout.

That assumes you know enough to sort wheat from chaff. Many asking the questions don't. Be very afraid of just ANY information.

That is what I mean, if someone does not know something then that is why they are asking. But they should be aware and get it from several sources. This is a good place to get the ideas and information then check with some LBS's in the area. I have always appreciated the help that I have received from these forums.😄
