Ultegra rear hub to 135mm

Yes, but that's doing it the hard way.

The easy way is to just add a 5 mm spacer to the left side. You'll want to re-adjust the right cone
too so the axle sticks out the same amount on both sides.

There's absolutely no need to replace the axle or any other part.

Yes and you don't absolutely have to change the axel. Usually there is 5 mm from the axel nut to th
end of axel. You can take it down to
2.5 mm. You might also consider taking the Ultegra hub to 132.5.

You can just add 2.5mm to each end of the existing axle or 5mm to the left..or get a 146mm
axle...all will work.

Adding 2.5 on each side is not a good option. It will move the cassette away from the rear derailer,
possibly leading to shifting problems, and it will also result in a weaker wheel, with more "dish"
than is necessary.

Replacing the axle would be a total waste of time and money, the standard 141 mm axle is plenty long
enough for 135 spacing.

The correct way to do this job is to put a 5 mm spacer on the left, re-center the axle so it
protrudes equally on both sides, and re-dish the wheel.

I have converted a few wheels from 130mm spacing to 135 spacing by use of a 2.5mm spacer added to
each side and have never had a problem. As far as using a 5mm on the left side and re-dishing the
wheel....that works as well. But if you are converting a wheel such as a Hed 3 or a disc wheel etc.,
adding a 5mm spacer to the left side and re-dishing the wheel is not an option. Fairly recently, I
converted a 650c Spinergy Rev-X with 2-piece titanium axle to 135mm spacing....it takes a totally
different approach, but can still be accomplished.

2.5 to each side.. Moving the casette away from the rear der may help things, particularly with
weak or old rear der return springs(haven't you ever added a small spacer under the rear der

I agree that adding 5mm to the left is a good thing but the other 'method' will work as well,
particularly if the gent is not adept at re-dishing or just doesn't want to, on a built wheel.
