enough to attack Lance. He is content to be clearly stronger than everyone
else. I hope Riis gets him pumped up enough to attack Lance and maybe with a
team like CSC they have more chances to do just that.

Too bad about Ullrich. I guess he still trains by "feel". He should have
known his VAM was so poor. Most teams have domestiques that are climbing
more comfortably than Jan is. Good thing Kloden is having his best form.
Kloden was supposed to reach this level years ago after he won Paris - Nice,
how many years ago?

Different styles of riding. Basso looked a little tired, but Lance did as

never has. Basso is too inexperienced to have the confidence to attack a guy
that is working on his sixth consecutive Tour. Not only is Basso younger,
but it also seems to be his character. It may change in the future, but it
may not. If you knew what you were talking about, you would understand this.

Sure, everyone looks a little tired (it is a mountain stage of the Tour...)
but experienced eyes can spot a rider at his limits. I'll stand by what I
said, but think what you want. Basso just might be the biggest talent of his
generation. I have not seen smooth pedaling like that since Bugno in the
early 90s and Roche before him. Experience counts for a lot in learning how
to pace yourself and how to get the most of your training. Basso never got
dropped last year and is even lighter. He was never put under pressure by
Armstrong, not for one moment. There is no way in hell Lance would drag a
dangerous guy like Basso up the mountain 2 days in a row if he had any
choice in the matter. He didn't and he did the next best thing by convincing
him to ride tempo.

He has done some good ITTs, but I don't know how he will do at the long TTs
in GTs. I don't recall him in the Tour in the past. This can't be his first
but I just do not remember seeing him. I remember when he won Paris Nice,
Ullrich had already been inconsistent and it seemed that Kloden was going to
challenge him for team leadership (since he is also German on the biggest
German team). Then again, Vino had impressed in 1999 and then went "MIA" for
a spell. Now they have both come good again. Telekom seens to get really odd
results from some incredible talent. Look at how many GT "future stars" have
gone there to disappoint their fans. Just about every big transfer turned
out poorly for Telekom.

Okay, if you are so sure of yourself, why did Basso not win the stage today?
He was riding just a smooth as yesterday and Lance was out of the saddle.
It was almost a mirror image, except Lance won. That tells me Lance has a
different style up the hills. Sometime I find it easier out of the saddle
if I have been in so long.

Lance loves to climb out of the saddle. To me, Lance's motion looks
effortless. I'm trying to emulate it.
