  1. Just reading Jan Ullrich's website and he has decided not to race in this weekends Amstel Gold race.

According to his website, JU says that he would not be competitive in this race and has therefore been allowed to stay at home to train !

On top of this Eddy Merckx has criticised Ullrich for being over weight (see www.cyclingnews.com).

Is Der Kaiser up to his old tricks again ?
Is he back on the pies ?

This must be music to LA's ears !

    Any thoughts ?

July is a long ways away. Most people say he weighs less at this stage of this year than previous years - so we shall see. Personally he can eat all the pies he wants or not - Lance should get #6.
I have to say - for Jan taking this weekend off - alot of cyclists do this including Lance so I would not put to much stock into it.

  3. he is making it easier for LA to build up confidence..
    to romp him!

  4. I'd agree with you Limerickman that it must be music to Lance Armstrong's ears. Ullrich isn't his only threat but he's definitely his top threat. I don't know what to think. I just don't understand why Jan wouldn't be giving his training/diet 100% when it's clearly a great opportunity for him to give Lance a VERY serious challange in this year's TdF?!? Especially with the team he's got working for him this year. Unless they end-up working for Vino...

I'm as lost as you are - to even explain what JU might be up to !

  6. FWIW, I watched a show called "The Road to the Tour" on OLN (Outdoor Life Network) last night. They did a piece on Ullrich. They confirmed that he won't be racing in the Amstel Gold, however, they reported that his weight is not an issue. They said he's just not where he needs to be with his fitness level right now. They showed some current footage of JU too and he looks quite slim.So I guess we'll see what happens.

  7. Perhaps JU is playing the same mind games that LA plays. (As much as I want JU to whip Lance, he's never really showed that sort of tactic)

It's going to be interesting though.
