UK Maps 1:25000

I believe that MemoryMap produce 1:50k maps of the whole country but
their 1:25k maps only cover tourist areas such as the Lakes and the
Brecon Beacons etc. Their website tells you which areas are available.

I do not know if any other source of maps can be used.

Memory-Map does have 1:25000 coverage of the whole country with their
"Selections" product, which lets you buy a map of a selected area.

I think it costs £80 per 2500 sqkm.

Anquet and Tracklogs also have complete GB coverage at 1:25K. They may
be cheaper, but won't work with your Memory-Map software.

The whole of the UK except Northern Ireland is available at 1:25,000
in 2x2 km chunks on the OS getamap site via screen capture.

As Adrian G pointed out to me these tiles can be found as .png images
in your browser cache and they are a better quality than the .jpg
offered in the save menu. Note the terms of use though.

I'd noticed that the save/copy/print option was at lower quality than
the image in the viewer.

Woo! Such an up to date map! Apparently there's a court here. I
assume they mean The Old Court House, which has been a detached des.
res. since long before I moved in a couple of doors up, and I've been
here six years. They're right about the school opposite though.

Simon Edwardes has told me about a better free map service than the
countryside right to roam one I mentioned earlier:

http://www.magic.gov.uk/website/magic/

Under "Select Topics" choose "Administrative areas", and you can then
search by OS grid reference and zoom in right to 1:10000 scale
(although there are no contours at this scale...)

Unfortunately for Fran this too is England only...

It seems to flip from Landranger(1:50k) backdrop to Explorer(1:25k) at
scale of around 1:22,000 (confusingly).

Also there is...

Which has Landranger, Explorer and 1:10k backdrops.

There doesn't seem to be an easy way to save the maps on either site.
Both give 10 digit grid refs for the cursor position at the bottom of
the page.
