Yes, as there are adaptors to use 1" headsets in a 1-1/8" head tube. If your headtube is 1-1/8",
then by all means, swap it out. If not, the only way to make it work is the BFH tool, and a torch.

I don't know if anybody mentioned it yet, but Performancebike.com sells a 1" to 1-1/8" coversion
unit for ~$20. Maybe other stores do too. Works like a charm. Good way to convert an old bullmoose
style with a conventional stem, etc.
