Well, it is about time. This entire OP affair has been horribly managed and another indication of UCI's incompetence and lack of leadership. What would have happened if Alejandro had ridden to form and won le tour? pathetic.

Thank God. This has been pathetic. The UCI and Spanish Federation should be embarrassed. This wouldn't have happened if the Worlds organizers didn't force the issue.

why are they going through the slow painful process? why the hell don't they just get it the hell out of the way in one step? everyone that rode the tour agreed to have their blood tested... just test it and if anyone gets a match they're out... over with kaput! they really need to just get this out of the way and stop this constant hemoraging so we can finally get back to racing. i mean even if they don't want to do anything about it in the end they still need to get this behind them... how can these idiots at the UCI be THAT fricken stupid? we need this over with and we need it over with as fast as possible. at this rate this will still be going on 5 years from now... i'm sure sponsor love to be associated with a sport that at every event the 1st thing out of everyones mouth is Puerto, Doping etc, etc... ok he won but don't celebrate too loudly we need to wait for the dope control... these guys are idiots!!

Start investigating him ! But not to stop him from racing all together just the world champs ! Think they are trying to show they are in control.... which they are not........ and we all thought Greg LeMond was mad ! now imgaine the message this is sending to our young junior riders..... well done UCI ![/font]

PS Blood test ? Hell no... then they would have to ask Contador to do the same !

That would certainly be the reasonable conclusion if they don't request action against the 40+ other cyclists that appear to be at least, if not more heavily implicated.

Spanish cycling ace Alejandro Valverde has pulled out of the Plouay Grand Prix ProTour race this Sunday due to suspicions over his implication in a doping affair.

What are the odds he will decide to do the Vuelta? I cannot imagine the Spanish race organizers will be too diligent in preventing him from racing.

...and just wait until a newspaper prints some details of Contador's drug usage and then the UCI will claim they just got to the chapter on Contador in the 6000 page dossier...

its such a half arsed way of dealing with it.... will Valverde ever be free of it ? I have to say IMHO that he was off the gear at the Tour and thats what a good athlete would like like off the dope......

PARIS, Aug 30 (Reuters) - All riders taking part in cycling's Pro Tour international circuit will be submitted to at least 15 urine tests and 15 blood tests a season from January next year.
In a statement on Thursday the union of professional cycling teams (IPCT) said about 80 percent of the tests would be out of competition.
It said the tests would be conducted by an independent body in conjunction with the World Anti-Doping Agency and the International Cycling Union (UCI).

Haven't they excluded the OP riders? I think RELAX is riding but not allowed to bring Sevilla and the others. It would appear that Valverde is now in the same boat as those guys?

I just never got the feeling that Unipublic was very eager to exclude OP riders. In today's cyclingnews there is this bit:

"Vuelta a España organiser Unipublic's president Ignacio Ayuso expressed his objection to the formal investigation of Alejandro Valverde by the UCI, calling the sudden decision by the sport's governing body a "provocation". After more than a year of rumour and speculation over Valverde's alleged involvement in the Operación Puerto doping scandal, the UCI finally was able to more closely examine the 6,000 page dossier and decided on Wednesday to impose a ban on the Spaniard's participation at the World Championships.

I wonder if Spanish organizers will reach a breaking point and not exclude riders unless there is a conviction. It is probably too late now, but if Valverde announced he wanted to race the Vuelta, would Unipublic say no?

It doesn't look like the have excluded the OP riders as Discovery have Allan Davis listed as riding.
His name originally appeared in OP but was cleared afterwards from involvement.

So not sure whether that means different rules for different people or some riders originally listed did in fact have no involvement (such as Davis).

Davis along with Contador and Paulinho, I believe all were originally named then "cleared" by later reports. Davis was even cleared by the Australian feds. However, there are some pretty damning OP documents concerning Davis that are out there so I'm not sure why he was cleared. I think he was originally named for the Tour this year but later removed, not sure if it had anything to do with OP or not?

One would assume if the organizers weren't excluding the OP riders Relax would have Sevilla and the others.

Wasn't he cleared because it is widely understood that Australians have genetically determined characteristics that mean they do not need to resort to PEDs? At least, that's what I've read on here.
