UCI Corrupt

I keep getting back to the question of why the IOC (indirectly through the UCI) regulates professional cycling? It doesn't make sense and things are ripe for a change. I am sure the ASO is planning one now.

Don't confuse the american judicial systems use of the "beyond reasonable doubt" standard with a procedural system imposed by a private organization of it's members. These are almost entirely "civil" proceedings and what we are dealing with rarely meets enough of a burden of proof standard to involve criminality. Then and only then do you see "Puerto-like" investigations involving real criminal investigations.

All of these governing bodies (for the most part) are private organizations with membership on a voluntary (albeit coercive) basis.

The whole notion of drug testing (regardless of the sport) is a modern-day marketing contrivance designed to build the facade of some degree of credibility and legitimacy to protect vast sums of money derived through marketing, bribery, licensing fees, coruption, kickbacks and patronage.

Where you have "self-regulation", you also have self-protection, self-centered, self-preservation and self-indulgence, to name a few "selfs".

Vultures like that hack [censored] Pound know this, see the holes through which they can drive a truck, and are actively lobbying/coercing the sponsors and legal authorities to be the so-called "independent" arbiter of all that is fair and just. And everytime the UCI, IAAF, FIFA, NFL, MLB, etc....screws up (in the consumers mind), the better his case.

In the end, these organizations, that do no more than "sell" their stamp-of-approval, have so much money at stake that they cannot help but become corrupt. 😠

The UCI is the "regulatory" body. The IOC has not such capability. You need to understand that the IOC is nothing more than a "holding company" or umbrella organization that "licenses" the rights to the olympics (and participation therein). They are lawyers and marketing people who control access and participation through marketing and licensing agreements. They establish the rules by which various sports may participate on the olympic playing field, but have no control (other than the use of the Olympic name/logos, etc...) on what a sports organization may do at a local level.

Think of it this way, the IOC tells FIBA what to do, in order to establish the world-wide rules for how a country can have an Olympic basketball team (and whether the IOC will recognize the sport), but the IOC has no say in what the NBA does in the US.
