Well, I've now been using them for 2 months. January and
February are usually the worst months of the year for me for
punctures.

I haven't had a front puncture since fitting the tyre
savers. I don't think I can put that down to the protection
of a bit of wire, though. It broke after a week and I never
got round to replacing it.

In the first week after fitting the tyre savers, I also had
no rear punctures. In the second week I had 4. Since then,
I've had none. Again, I don't think this had much to do with
the bit of wire. The cessation of punctures coincided with
me replacing the rear tyre, and I haven't really bothered to
keep the tyre saver properly adjusted since.

I do believe that the tyre savers indirectly prevented at
least one puncture, though. I was prompted to stop and check
my tyres by a strange sound coming from the back wheel. I
found 2 staples embedded in the rear tyre. The sound I had
heard was one of the staples bashing the wire on each
revolution. I believe the staples had penetrated the tyre
far enough to reach the tube, but had not yet holed the
tube. The tyre saver alerted me to their presence in time
for me to prevent the puncture.

I removed the rear one at lunchtime today. Since the
weather's warmed up, I've started wearing a thinner hat that
doesn't cover my ears. The noise of the tyre saver rubbing
against the wheel was becoming rather irritating - it didn't
bother me when I was wearing my winter hat.
