  1. I am doing the L2B and I am looking for a good slick style tyres for my MTB. Presently I have some WTB Wierwolfs and some specialised Crossroads. Both a bit grippy for road riding.

I am not looking to spend much more than £35 for two tyres but finding t hard to find a tyre that still has grip for in the wet and down those slippy hills but something with little rolling resistance, please help.

  2. 1. Conti Ultra Gator Skin Slick 26"x28mm
    2. Conti Sport Contact 26"x1.3
    2. Michelin XCR Road 26"x1.4

There are seveal good threads on slicks:
    http://www.cyclingforums.com/t291662.html for example.

Havwe been told that getting slicks might not be the best idea as as it might be wet so want to go inbetween, any thoughts??

  4. For something in between, last week I tried my GF's Conti City Contact 26x1.5. They are quite fast, comfortable but not a racing tyre. See posts #84, #80, #81 in : http://www.cyclingforums.com/t291662.html
They share the same cases the Conti Sport Contact but have some tread: http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/de/en/continental/bicycle/themes/tires/city/citycontact/citycontact_en.html

If I were doing that event (L2B) I would use the Conti Ultra Gator Skins in 28mm as it is all on road. 🙂

  5. Got Specialized FatBoys on my grocery store bike.....

  6. I swap my knobblies over for a set of Schwalbe City Jet slicks 26x1.5

you can pick them up in Halfords for about a tenner each. Normally i would cut off my testicles with a blunt razor then hammer them them flat with a meat tenderiser before buying anything from Halfords but Schwable are an excellent tyre. Its done a few thousand miles and never punctured once. Low rolling resistance, excellent for commuting or training or around town.

  7. Conti do the Grand Prix MTB which is superb

This may be a problem if you are doing over 160kms/hr down the southern side of ditchling beacon.

Bicycle tyres dont aquaplane until well over 160km/h from memory . On the road a slick provides more grip than a treaded tyre.

Conti gatorskins are what we use on the tandem.

    Cheers

    Geoff
