Tyres for Road use

Yes, it is it will make a great difference.

Peoples preferences for widths vary, for road use on my utility bike (an ex MTB) I prefer something
around the 35mm - 38 mm mark

If youa re just riding on roads then slicks are good, but as I also ride on crappier surfaces like
towpaths and the like then aI prefer something with a bit of tread.

Currently I have a Michelin Wildgripper city on and a Specialised Armadillo, the Michelin was fairly
cheap. I've also had a Nokia, which was good but heavy,

Are they knobbly off-road jobs? If so, yes, I would replace. Otherwise consider sticking with them.
All that air helps deal with the potholes!

Schwalbe City Jet 26 x 1.5. Well made, pretty fast, enough depth of rubber for good puncture
resistance, inexpensive.

Continental Avenue semi slick are the biz if you want a good commuting tyre to replace the
knobblies.

Yeah - another vote for the city jets here - 85psi therefore much faster on the road and no more of
the mentally scarring rumbling noise. I found some hardened steel tyre levers would have been handy
when installing them narmean 🙂

Apart from the usual suspects (inc tough as old boots, but pleasant as old boots specialised ES)
I've found a new one. Decathalon (well at least the one in orleans), do a tyre that looks like a
copy of the schwalbe marathon, for less than 8 quid. Plenty of rubber, nice central line, but rather
wide (1.75).

I have some you can have for free (well, cost of shipping). They are Specialized Fatboy, 1.25" wide,
slick, very good grip, very low rolling resistance. Unfortunately I found that they got too many
punctures for my tastes, but if you want them they are yours.

(Or if anyone else wants them they can have them.)

thanks for all the advice on those. This morning I bought a pair of specialized Nimbus Armadillo.
Also bought a new lighter lock. the ride into work was much nicer and quicker! when i got back to my
bike after work it wasnt there! nice!

Specialized Nimbus Armadillos every time. 26 x 1.5, and extremely resistant to the hazards of roads.
Also very hard wearing and good in pretty much all road conditions, and quite fast if kept pumped
up. My only puncture was when I hadn't checked them between rides, and managed to finally force a
large bit of glass through to the inner tube.

Also worth considering would be Hutchinson Top Slick Airlight folding. Good tyre and very light
weight. As long as you can get over the fact there is no tread you will be flying along especially
coupled with the mavix x221.

Should be good for 2000 perhaps 2500 miles.
