Hey guys,
If you think all these mercury poisoning stories are [censored], and like a lot of
lifters you eat a lot of fish and you feel OK, take a test! I woke up quickly.
I've been having 2-4 cans of tuna a day for the last 7-8 years or so, given that
it's a nice inexpensive, easily accessible, easily edible and abundant source of
protein. Though I have no negative symptoms yet, I recently went for a test
because my wife was worried. So my blood tests show that I have 26
micrograms/liter. You're supposed to only have 5-6! And I've actually been
eating less tuna than ever now that I'm married and my wife cooks - I've 'only'
had it once a day for the last 8 months or so. Even if I totally stop now, I'm
at risk for the delayed onset of mercury poisoning (sometimes it takes years
until you develop symptoms).
What is [censored] is that there are no warnings on tuna cans saying not to eat a
whole can more than once a week, when there are plenty of warnings on say
bottles of aspirin for something as obscure as reye's syndrome in kids under 18
who take aspirin.
I guess I'm going to have be less lazy and start cooking things. It looks like
it's egg whites or chicken breast for me from now on. I hope this reaches
someone as I would've liked to know 10 years ago!
