Tufo Tubulars

The LBS I frequent which has several folks very experienced
with tubies advised against the tape. That was enough for
me. At the race my club put on, a rider rolled a tubie on
which he used tape instead of glue. He was lucky not to
crash and trash a really nice wheel.

I'm particularly interested because they can be "taped

tape? And does the tire sealant they advertise really seal

I would glue them and remember, you cannot repair them..like
a more normal tubie.

Any tire can be taped down, not just theirs. The people
who have actually tried the TUFO tape seem to like it as
reported in this ng; however, there is considerable
prejudice in the cycling world against tape, which derives
from apparently inferior products that preceded TUFO's. I
would not take the word of anyone who had not tried
specifically the TUFO Extreme tape. I would not say one
way or the other myself, since I don't have personal
experience with it.

I don't know if it works as well as they say but it
definitely does work in my experience. I would try it before
ripping open a tubular to repair a leak. I have thought
about injecting it to stop flats on the road but out of
laziness may not get around to it until I have to.

Good point which reminds me to add that my use of TUFO
sealant was on tubed sewups, not tubeless.

I've had the opportunity to try the stuff in their tubular
clinchers - it didn't seal the 3mm glass puncture that I was
hoping it would seal. err, well it did for about 3 minutes
but then the puncture split open and sprayed sealant all
over the back of my frame and the road :-P

anyone try repairing tufo tubular-clinchers with a dab of
super glue?

I once shot super glue into a cut of a regular tubular ( new
tire, piece of 0.5mm wire, caprice). I placed the end of the
tube against the hole, squeezed and then inflated hard and
pressed a plastic bag over the injury with my thumb.

It held a couple of weeks.

One problem is that everything flexes except the super glue.
another is that the bond is not exceptional on rubber. Hard
surfaces seem to stick better to the stuff.

I did use Tufo goop in a similar situation last August and
that held fine through November. That bike will be back on
the road this week. It's holding air right now.
