"Britons are more likely to die from heart disease than
people living in almost every other western European or
major industrialised country." See

don't feel too smug. According to Harvard's Dr. Willette,
70% of American heart disease is due to poor diet and
sedentary lifestyle.

Good point. "A study by researchers in Switzerland also
shows that many of these countries have done a much better
job at reducing deaths from the disease since the 1960s
compared to Britain. "[email hidden] (TopCounsel) wrote in message news:<20040525113947.09674.00002029@mb-

As it happens being Scottish is even worse than being
British. Scots have the highest heart disease death rate in
Britain. It also happens that for a variety of reasons the
National Health Service operates with less waiting times in
Scotland. The problem isn't socialised medicine. It's diet.
The Scots eat a lot more fried food with chips, etc., than
the English. How quickly you can get an operation to bypass your fat-
clogged arteries isn't the real problem. Our grandfathers
had much less problems from heart disease, and also poorer
medical care. The real problem is how you got your arteries
clogged up in the first place. To return to politics, it is
becoming apparent just how much of a contributor to the bad-for-
heart diet is placing sugared pop and candy dispensers in
schools, one of the triumphs of the free market.

["]http://www.dai.ed.ac.uk/homes/cam/]I think it is a mix. It is hard to argue that either waiting
a long time for a needed angiogram or eating bad foods does
not have a negative impact on heart deaths. Another factor
that could come into play are the protocols for medications.Bill
