Iassume you tried ebay, etc. I would check out the use of friction
shifters with a bridge or other adaptor, which for most aerobar
configs will be cheaper than bar-ends. (I think that most people
forgot about these, but they were much more common in the first years
of the "funny bike" or dedicated TT machine). I have seen friction
shifters for under $20 USD per pair new while bar-ends are often index
only and closer to $100 and up. An added bonus is that you can use a
wider variety of rear cogs without stressing about it. Who needs a 10-
speed cassette for a TT? You might be able to get a set of new bars
and friction shifters for well under $100 USD. I have also found that
this gear is usually cheaper in the UK than any other "developed"
nations (not sure about "3rd world" nations...) . Though I have not
priced lower cost TT bars in the UK, you can find the lowest cost at
the major national retailers that sell a house brand (usually you can
even tell where they got them made by looking at them and even if they
are only a knock-off, they will still allow the position you want
regardless of the materials used. The last time I made a serious
attempt to find bars at good prices I recall seeing several clip-on
bars for around $50. So, with some luck you might be able to find a
bridge or mount point for the levers for $20 or less, then allow $15
for the friction levers and with $50 for the clip-on bar that is $85
for new gear. Lots of guys have friction levers they forgot about that
might trade for something you don't need (but don't offer much unless
they are Simplex or some other collectible).

Good luck, and don't let the lack of equipment keep you from the start
line.

Yes, how silly I feel now; the OP wasn't being arrogant, he was just
being dumb. Since both qualities abound in the US, you needn't be
getting on your high horse, with or without cowboy boots.

Since he's in BoMo, a card in the window of Primera may have been the
best approach in the first place...
